First there was mud, and everyone’s boots were a mess. Then came the log “platters,” but this temporary solution eventually became unstable and folks were slipping. But now, with your help, the Wellesley Conservation Land Trust will have a set of three sturdy and safe boardwalks placed over 300 feet of Guernsey Sanctuary’s muddiest trails.

The boardwalks are designed by WCLT Board member Bill Giezentanner, who has also designed and built boardwalks at Wellesley’s North 40 vernal pool, and at numerous Audubon sanctuaries. The walkways will be composed of 6-inch, rot-resistant, black locust lumber from Ashley Falls, MA. The addition of the boardwalks will keep hikers from veering off-trail and trampling ecologically sensitive areas in an effort to keep footwear mud-free.

We’ve made a good start, thanks to a generous grant from the Community Fund for Wellesley, and to Maggie Mulshine who raised $5,000 as WCLT’s 2025 Boston Marathon runner.
Individuals, families, organizations, and businesses are encouraged to donate to the GUERNEY’S BOARDWALK PROJECT, which will result in a safer trail to benefit all. Your donation will help us complete this important project.

• 1 board –$50 contribution
• 1 foot of boardwalk (2 boards)—$100
• 5 feet of boardwalk (10 boards)—$500
• 10 feet of boardwalk (20 boards)—$1,000
• 25 feet of boardwalk (50 boards)—$2,500
• 50 feet of boardwalk (100 boards)—$5,000
Donations in any amount are welcome.
Contributions at the “10 or more feet of boardwalk” level will be recognized by a plaque on the starting board of that section.
